Game Change: Donald Trump Taking Control of Race Post Convention
The latest three national polls reveal Republican nominee Donald Trump is leading presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as she begins her party’s convention in Philadelphia.
A CNN/ORC poll shows Trump leading Clinton 44 percent to 39 percent — outside the margin of error.
“Trump’s new edge rests largely on increased support among independents, 43% of whom said that Trump’s convention in Cleveland left them more likely to back him, while 41% were dissuaded,” according to CNN.
Trump is up four points in a new Los Angeles Times/USC poll, which has the billionaire at 45 percent to Clinton’s 41 percent.
A Morning Consult poll also shows Trump ahead of Clinton by four points, outside the two percentage points margin of error, 44 to 40 percent.
Morning Consult suggests the bump for Trump comes from the consolidation of the Republican base.
“Eighty-five percent of Republicans in the new poll said they would vote for Trump, compared with just less than eight in 10 Republicans (79 percent) from the week before,” Morning Consult notes.
