Krauthammer: Hillary Clinton’s ‘Alt-Right’ Speech a Dud

Columnist Charles Krauthammer told Fox News’ Special Report with Bret Baier on Thursday that Hillary Clinton’s “alt-right” speech earlier in the day in Reno, in which she attacked Breitbart News and tried to link Donald Trump with the Ku Klux Klan, had been a failure.

“I’m not sure it’s going to have a big effect. This is the old Democratic playbook, where you accuse your opponent of being racist, to use ad hominems. I mean, it is slightly over-the-top. There was a point in the speech where she said the rise of bullying in schools, alleged, is a result of [Trump’s] rhetoric. And I think that is rather, sort of, National Equirer-type stuff,” Krauthammer said.

(Clinton had said: “Parents and teachers are already worried about what they’re calling the ‘Trump Effect.’ Bullying and harassment are on the rise in our schools, especially targeting students of color, Muslims, and immigrants.”)

Krauthammer added that guilt-by-association could be a double-edged sword for the Clinton campaign, given the radical groups it has embraced. “I would say that for Hillary, she should be a little bit careful because of her support for Black Lives Matter — does she really want to be associated with a group that chants about killing cops?”

Krauthammer added that he did not think Trump’s pre-emptive strike on Clinton, when he called her a “bigot” in a speech on Wednesday, would have an effect on the race, either.

“I think we’re at the lowest — we’re at the bottom of the barrel of a race that we knew would be low and dirty, and that’s exactly where we are now.”
